The charming and historical market town of Wimborne Minster is surrounded by beautiful Dorset countryside containing many lovely walks. Within the town a visit to the magnificent Minster is a must as is a visit to the Model Town. Wimborne can offer riverside walks along both the River Allen and in particular the River Stour. If browsing, Wimborne is full of interesting shops and historical places of interest such as the Priest's House Museum and Gardens.
Annually in mid-June the famous Wimborne Folk Festival takes place. The town is alive with bands, street parades, morris dancers, market stalls and much much more.
Further a field but only just out of Wimborne is the country house of Kingston Lacy, set in beautiful gardens, the house makes for an interesting day out for all the family. Just a bit further on from Kingston Lacy is the ancient hill fort of Badbury Rings. Dating from the Iron Age the hill fort lasted as a defence up until the arrival of the Romans in AD43. The Romans set up a military station nearby and called Wimborne Vindogladia.
If fishing is your past time there are a number of lakes and rivers surrounding Wimborne which can accept day visitors. It is best to tap the knowledge of the locals in the Albion among who are a number of fine anglers.
Wimborne is ideally placed for visiting the beautiful New Forest, the sandy beaches of Bournemouth and the magnificent Poole harbour where every conceivable water based sport or pastime can be pursued.
If all else fails the local Tourist Information office is a few doors away from the Albion and they will be able to offer you the full range of local places to visit and things to do and see.
